Glossary
Technical words that show up in Build Log, explained in a line or two.
- ASD-STE100
- Simplified Technical English, the European aerospace industry's standard for technical writing. Short sentences, active voice, one meaning per word.
- Chatterbox
- An open-source TTS model from Resemble AI, MIT licensed. It clones a voice from a few seconds of audio and runs locally.
- Cloudflare R2
- Cloudflare's file storage, compatible with Amazon S3. R2 does not charge for bandwidth when viewers download files.
- Codex
- OpenAI's coding agent that runs in the terminal. I use it to generate images through a ChatGPT plan.
- copy-review
- A copy review page I built for my agent. The real page is on the left and each line is on the right. The editor rewrites or approves each line, then the agent writes the edits into the code.
- ElevenLabs
- A speech AI service for text to speech and voice cloning. The free plan has no voice cloning.
- ffmpeg
- An open-source command-line tool that cuts, joins, converts and changes the speed of audio and video.
- Fraunces
- A free serif font on Google Fonts, with a softness (SOFT) axis and Vietnamese support.
- GSAP
- GreenSock Animation Platform, a JavaScript library for web animation. The GSAP skill is a set of instructions that helps an agent write GSAP animations.
- Hemingway
- Ernest Hemingway, the American writer. Short sentences, strong verbs, few adjectives.
- HyperFrames
- A command-line tool that renders an animated HTML page into a video file, one frame at a time.
- Masthead
- The top of a newspaper's front page: the name, the date, the issue number.
- Risograph
- A Japanese stencil printer. It prints one color per pass, so images have grain and slight misregistration.
- Soniox
- A pay-as-you-go speech AI service: speech to text and translation.
- Ukiyo-e
- Japanese woodblock prints from the 17th to 19th centuries. Bold outlines, flat colors.
- VieNeu
- A Vietnamese text-to-speech (TTS) model. It is free, runs locally, and has preset voices such as Thục Đoan and Thanh Bình.
- VTT
- WebVTT, the caption file format for web video. Each line has a start time and an end time.
- Whisper
- OpenAI's open-source speech recognition model. It turns speech into text, with the time of each word.
